We are reeling from the discovery of a mass grave of 215 children, as young as 3 years old, on the site of a former residential school in Kamloops. Powerful memorials of shoes on stairways tell the story of their steps never taken, of children who were taken from their parents and families. Many suffered, and many died without their families at their side.
It's a sobering sight, and we cry collectively for these children and their families. Its unfathomable that this could happen, we say. Not in our country. But it did, and does.
We must do better.
