Who do I think I am.

Who do I think I am?

When I wrote my first book - How to be a Pink Flamingo in a Brown Duck Pond - I started with this question. Who do I think I am.  Who am I to tell the story of what it means to be a woman in business. A woman in the world. Who do I think I am?

It’s a good question because the answer is what you can accomplish and how you do it.

I wear many hats. I am currently the owner of ZÖE, a business consultant, a writer, publisher, author, mother, wife, dog lover, yogi, friend, shoe girl, lover of fashion, rule breaker, path maker, provider, entrepreneur . . . Woman.

There is nothing that I don’t think I can’t do. Or that we can’t do. We are ageless. Timeless. Resilient. Strong. Smart. Able.

Sometimes things don’t go our way. Sometimes we fall. But we get back up again. We find away. Sometimes we get the proverbial pat on the head that says - “it’s ok dear, you tried your best.” Do they say that to a man? Doubtful.

International Woman’s Day is a chance to recognize the fact that women are under represented politically and in leadership positions, yet we are resourceful, creative and multi faceted. Women are also historically and currently under paid for the same work.

Prior to my independence in June 2011 In my career as a journalist, corporate communicator, policy maker, corporate planner and executive leader, women have been my teachers, mentors and advocates.

Women helping raise up women is what this day is about. And every day if you’re a woman.

When it comes to making a choice, choose eachother. Fight for each other in the choices you make.

To my people, I say there are two words that you need to remember. You don’t have to say them but you have to think them when someone tells you that you can’t.
